Working in Surrey: our approach to landscape and community

Kidbrook Homes has worked almost entirely within Surrey, Hampshire, and South West London since 2005. That focus is deliberate. We know the planning authorities, the conservation constraints, the local character, and crucially, the long-term trajectory of the places we build in.

Working within a defined geography means we can take a view on a site that goes beyond its boundary. How does a new scheme read from the road it sits on, from the village it borders, from the footpath that passes behind it? Good design answers those questions before it answers the brochure.

We have also come to believe that the best new homes in established places are the ones that feel like they were always meant to be there. That takes restraint — on scale, on materials, on the temptation to over-brand a building — and it takes time. It is a slower way to work, and we wouldn't change it.
